Forward, 6-8, 225, McKeesport, Pa./St. Benedict's Prep (N.J.)/Hudson Catholic/Shadyside Academy
A strong, athletic combination forward from nearby McKeesport, Pa., Michael Young is an all-around player who can play in the post, mid-post and perimeter. He is tough, versatile and is a strong rebounder who plays hard with a chip on his shoulder. Young displays major athleticism and is a force on the backboards. One of the top big men in the Class of 2013, Young recently has improved his offensive game with a soft jump hook with both hands and range on his jumper from out to 16-feet. He can also play multiple positions on the court including small forward and power forward and is willing to do the little things to get the job done. A powerful rebounder, Young has a mixture of presence in the paint and on the perimeter to be a dangerous power forward. He has an ideal frame for a power forward and tremendous skill level for his size which gives him the ability to be versatile and play different positions. He brings leadership and experience to Pitt. He is a matchup problem. If they put a big man on him, he will step out and play the wing position and if they put a guard on him, he will slide to the post. Young has expanded his game to the point where he is capable of stepping out and knocking down shots and handling the ball.
