Men's Basketball Signs Three Student-Athletes to a National Letter of Intent

PITTSBURGH--The University of Pittsburgh men's basketball program signed three student-athletes-- Shaquille Doorson (Holland/Canarias Academy, Spain), Sheldon Jeter (Beaver Falls, Pa./Vanderbilt/Beaver Falls H.S.) and Ryan Luther (Gibsonia, Pa./Hampton H.S.)--to a National Letter of Intent, head coach Jamie Dixon announced on Thursday. The NCAA Division I fall men's basketball signing period ran from Nov. 13-20.

A 6-foot-11-inch, 265-pound center, Shaquille Doorson is a native of Holland who is currently competing for the Canarias Basketball Academy in Spain. An athletic, aggressive rebounder with a big body and great hands, Doorson is a developing player with much promise. He has been described as a hard worker, who in his short time at Canarias, has made impressive strides with his game. Doorson has been ranked as a four-star player and the nation's No. 20 center by ESPN in the 2013-14 class.

A 6-foot-8-inch, 225-pound combination forward, Jeter will enroll at Pitt this summer with three years of eligibility remaining after he played his freshman season at Vanderbilt University. A native of nearby Beaver Falls, Pa., Jeter averaged 5.5 points and 3.4 rebounds per game in seven starts and 33 contests in 2012-13. He is a two-time First Team All-State selection who earned WPIAL, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Pittsburgh Tribune-Review and Beaver County Times Player of the Year honors after guiding Beaver Falls to a 28-3 overall record and Class 2A state runner-up finish in 2012. Jeter concluded his four-year high school career with 1,489 career points and averaged 21.8 points, 12 rebounds, five assists, two blocks and two steals per game during his senior season. He is currently attending classes at Polk State J.C. in Winter Haven, Fla.


 

 

A 6-foot-9-inch, 215-pound combination forward, Luther enters his senior season as the all-time career leading scorer in Hampton H.S. basketball history with 1,390 points. As a junior, Luther averaged 21.3 points per game and led the Talbots to a 22-6 record and WPIAL Class 4A finals appearance. He earned Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Fabulous Five and Pittsburgh Tribune-Review Terrific 10 honors last season. Over his three-year varsity career, Luther has scored 30 or more points four times, 20 or more points 20 times and reached double figure scoring in 78 of 81 contests. Over the last two seasons, Luther has guided Hampton to a combined 47-11 overall record. He plays AAU basketball with the Maryland 3D squad.

Pitt (8-0) hosts Loyola Marymount (6-2) on Friday at the Petersen Events Center. Tipoff is at 7 p.m. for an ESPN3.com broadcast.
