Pitt vs. Syracuse Game Notes

Nov. 3, 2007

Recap |  Quotes |  Game Action

Pitt Post-Game Notes (vs. Syracuse)

•Pitt has won five of the last six meetings with the Orange dating back to the 2002 season. The lone loss came in 2004, a 38-31 defeat in double overtime in the Carrier Dome.

•The Panthers are 3-1 vs. Syracuse at Heinz Field. Pitt also defeated the Orange in 2005 (34-17) and 2003 (34-14) at Heinz. In the stadium's inaugural season (2001), Syracuse claimed a 42-10 decision for its only victory at Heinz Field.

•With his 140 yards today, LeSean McCoy eclipsed the 1,000-yard milestone for the season (1,065). He is the first player to accomplish the feat since Kevan Barlow ran for 1,167 yards in 2000. The last Pitt freshman to do so was Curvin Richards in 1988 (1,228).

•McCoy is the third Pitt freshman to rush for over 1,000 yards (Curvin Richards, 1,228 yards, 1988; Tony Dorsett, 1,686 yards, 1973) and the fifth freshman to do so in the history of the Big East Conference.

•Today also marked McCoy's sixth 100-yard game of the season, placing him second on Pitt's all-time freshman list. The record is 10 100-yard games, set by Tony Dorsett during the 1973 season (counting bowl games).

•McCoy's touchdown run today was his 11th of the season. He now trails only Dorsett, who had 13 rushing scores in 1973 (counting bowl games), on the freshman single-season list.

•John Bachman started at right guard for the second consecutive game in place of Joe Thomas (hamstring). It marked the second career start for Bachman.

•Syracuse kicked a 36-yard field goal at the 9:01 mark of the second quarter to take a 3-0 lead, marking the ninth time in 10 games Pitt's opponent has scored first.

•Conor Lee was 2 of 3 in field goals today (making two field goals of 32 yards). He is now 25 of 29 for his career at Pitt (86.2%). Lee entered today's game as the country's active leader in career field goal percentage (prior to today, 88.5%, 23 of 26).

•Lee also extended his streak of consecutive extra points today to 70. •Aaron Berry's 53-yard punt return in the third quarter was the longest of his career.

•Joe Clermond set a new career high for sacks in a game with 2.5. His previous best was 1.5 against Syracuse last season.
