PITT COACH Paul Chryst QUOTESHEET

Pitt vs. Notre Dame, Nov. 9, 2013

Head Coach Paul Chryst

Opening statement:

"That was a good win. I appreciate what the players and coaches did. We were able to do enough things tonight to win. It was a great atmosphere and it was fun. I know it fueled our kids."

On the performance of the entire team:

"I thought all units did a heck of a job and contributed, and that's what makes this one feel good."

On the defense coming up big:

"Defensively, we had the two big picks by Ray Vinopal and obviously key stops. We were able to do the job stopping them on third downs."

On the performance of the offense and the rushing game:

"Offensively, we were able to run the ball enough and took care of it. We were as good on our third downs as you'd like to be. I thought James Conner ran hard. He was dominant at the goal line. I thought Isaac Bennett ran hard as well. We were able to run the ball enough so that it didn't just become a passing game."

On the performance of the special teams:

"We had a big return by Lafayette Pitts. I thought our coverage units did a good job for the most part."

On Tom Savage's performance:

"I don't think we learned anything new about him - it's kind of who he is. It's how he's been. He wasn't perfect. I thought he made some big throws. He competed and that kind of rubs off on the rest of the team. I thought he did a lot of good things."

On using the win as momentum for the next game (vs. North Carolina):

"We've got to enjoy tonight and tomorrow and take it and go forward. It was a good win to get. We'll play out the year and see what happens."

Quoting Wide Receiver Devin Street

On the team playing with a lead:

"It was just about finishing. The game's not over until it's over, until the final second clicks down.  That was the biggest word today, finish, and don't wait. We came out there and played as a total team today and I couldn't be more proud of these guys."

On his game-tying touchdown:

"It was a great dial up by Coach Chryst and we just executed it. It was all about the dial up."

On the atmosphere at Heinz Field:

"It was amazing and the best I have seen so far. I am proud of Pittsburgh and all of the fans."

Quoting Running Back James Conner

On his two touchdowns:

"I knew that I had to get in the endzone. I felt I was running kind of soft earlier in the first half and I decided that I have a big body, and I had to use it to get inside the end zone."

On the overall season:

"This season there have been ups and downs. I missed a couple games and I got hurt at Virginia Tech, and then I didn't get too many carries against Old Dominion or Navy. I felt it was time to get back in the groove and set it back up. The game was on ABC and it was a big stage so I wanted to perform well."

Quoting Quarterback Tom Savage

On the feeling on the sideline during Pitt's game-winning touchdown drive:

"It was a unique experience out there with the guys. We all kind of looked at each other on the sideline and said this is the time. It's time to go out there and answer because I think we were due. It was a lot of fun."

On if the offense was fueled by the performance of the defense:

"Absolutely. It was awesome seeing the guys out there balling out like that. We knew it was our time and our turn to step up for the team and make a play."

On grinding out the win late in the game:

"Our offensive line and running backs did a great job of really running the ball down there and it made it easy for the team and to control the clock. It was fun."

Quoting Defensive Tackle Aaron Donald

On getting the win tonight:

"It felt amazing out there. It was a big-time game and a big-time win. We needed one and we did it today and it was exciting."

On the atmosphere at Heinz Field:

"It was loud and amazing because everybody was on their feet. It was really exciting out there."

On the play of Ray Vinopal:

"I told him big-time players make big-time plays in big-time games and he did that out there for us. I thanked him and gave him a hug and was really excited for him."

Quoting Safety Jason Hendricks

On where this win ranks on his all-time list:

"They all rank at the top, especially when you beat Notre Dame because it's a rivalry game between us. Every time we play them it's a hard game, so I'm glad my team came out and challenged them."

On the performance of Ray Vinopal:

"He played a great game, just a great game. He kept his head up because he gave up a pass but he just kept playing and erased it from his memory and made some big plays for us."

Quoting Safety Ray Vinopal

On how it felt to win tonight's game:

"It's always a pretty big deal to beat Notre Dame and to see the seniors so happy and emotional after the game, it's what you play for."

On his individual performance tonight:

"The coaches always had a good game plan and all week just feed us tips to put us in the position to make the plays that I made today. I gave up a rough one to the tight end earlier and you have to put stuff like that behind you. Notre Dame's going to make plays; they're a very capable team with great athletes. They all practice and are on scholarship too. I just had to go out there and keep playing every series hard to get the win."

On the atmosphere at Heinz Field:

"It was awesome. Looking up and seeing all those people was awesome. It was primetime and you only get that once and you take those opportunities and hold them close."
