PITTSBURGH—Running back Ray Graham, who finished his college career as the second leading rusher in Pitt history trailing only the legendary Tony Dorsett, has been invited to participate in the 2013 NFL Scouting Combine, held Feb. 23-26 in Indianapolis.
Graham joins more than 300 of the nation’s top college players who were invited to participate in the NFL Combine. The event is pro football’s equivalent to a job fair where top executives, coaches, player personnel departments and medical staffs from all 32 NFL teams evaluate the top college players eligible for the upcoming draft.
The 5-foot-9, 190-pound Graham (Elizabeth, N.J./Elizabeth H.S.) was selected first team All-Big East each of the past two seasons. As a senior he rushed for 1,042 yards and 11 touchdowns on 222 carries (4.7 avg.). He added 36 receptions for 340 yards (9.4 avg.) and two TDs.
Graham’s senior year production was particularly impressive coming in the wake of a knee injury that cut short his junior campaign. Through the first seven games of the 2011 season, he was second nationally in rushing yards per game (134.14 avg.). A right knee injury early in the eighth game against Connecticut, however, ended Graham’s year as he finished with 958 yards and nine TDs on 164 carries (5.8 avg.).
He finished his career as one of the most prolific backs in Pitt history, ranking second all-time in career rushing yards (3,271) and all-purpose yards (4,943). Graham finished tied for fifth in career scoring with 216 points on 36 touchdowns (tied with LeSean “Shady” McCoy, who starred at Pitt from 2007-08 and now is a member of the Philadelphia Eagles).
Following his senior year, Graham played in the East-West Shrine Game.
The Combine will be televised by NFL Network
This year’s NFL Draft will be held April 25-27 in New York City. Three former Pitt running backs have been selected in the past four NFL Drafts (McCoy by Philadelphia in 2009; LaRod Stephens-Howling by Arizona in 2009; and Dion Lewis by Philadelphia in 2011).
