PITTSBURGH—The Pitt Panthers will enter the upcoming football season as one of the nation’s Top 20 teams according to the 2008 Sports Illustrated college football preview issue, which hits newsstands this week. (The complete Top 20 is listed below.)

The Panthers return 17 starters from last year’s team, which concluded its season with a dramatic 13-9 victory over heated-rival West Virginia. Pitt will feature some of the finest players in the Big East Conference – and all of college football – this year.

Among Pitt’s standout performers are three national honors candidates in senior linebacker Scott McKillop (Export, Pa./Kiski Area), sophomore tailback LeSean McCoy (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt/Milford Academy [N.Y.]) and senior placekicker Conor Lee (Upper St. Clair, Pa./Upper St. Clair/Fork Union Military Academy [Va.]).

Additionally, the Panthers have added under Coach Dave Wannstedt another nationally rated recruiting class, considered the best in the Big East for a third consecutive year.

Pitt opens the 2008 season on Aug. 30 against Bowling Green at Heinz Field. For ticket information, log on to PittsburghPanthers.com or call (800) 643-PITT.
