Training Camp Day 15 Quotes August 19, 2008
Opening Statement: "I thought we gave up to many plays on defense today. The offense is adding a few things but every time we go on the field defensively we expect to show up and not be streaky and right now we are streaky. There are no excuses for that. We have to get a little more consistent. Our quarterbacks, for the most part, continue to make good decisions and throw the ball well. The effort was there."
On Bill Stull's comeback from injury: "No one has ever questioned Stull's desire to be a very good quarterback. It's important to him. Stull was not redshirted and he was able to approach last year as an extra year and he took advantage of that. I think he's a little bit stronger because of it. It gave him another year to learn the offense as well.
"Billy has always had a good attitude about it. He's still never started a full game and since he's been around here the last few years people assume that he is a three-year starter. This is an important year for him."
On the injury front: "We are not too bad. We have some bumps and bruises but only one player didn't practice today. (T.J.) Porter was held out but he is real close to returning. I like the attitude our players have. We just need to clean up a few things, that's all."
On Pitt's depth at receiver: "With (Derek) Kinder coming back, we have him; (Oderick) Turner and (Cedric) McGee, who we know are going to play. Then we have (Jonathan) Baldwin, (Aundre) Wright and (Aaron) Smith and the younger kids who are in the mix as well. (T.J.) Porter needs to get out there and play. The train doesn't stop. You've got to get on it as fast as you can." On players who can earn a starting spot based on Wednesday's scrimmage: "They know who they are. We have some real competitive battles at several positions. Maybe not starting roles but backup roles and special teams players." |
