Sept. 1, 2009
PITTSBURGH—The University of Pittsburgh will celebrate the beginning of another football season with the Annual Pitt Football Kickoff Luncheon, held this year at the Westin Convention Center Hotel in Pittsburgh on Friday, Sept. 4, at 11:30 a.m.
In addition to Coach Dave Wannstedt and members of the 2009 Panthers, this year’s luncheon will be highlighted by the attendance of legendary coach John Majors and former Pitt All-America offensive lineman Ruben Brown.
Majors orchestrated one of the biggest turnarounds in college football history during his initial stint at Pitt, leading the Panthers to a 12-0 mark and the 1976 national title. Brown was a 1994 All-American before embarking on a stellar 13-year NFL career (with the Buffalo Bills and Chicago Bears) that saw him earn nine Pro Bowl berths.
Both Majors and Brown will make remarks at Friday’s luncheon. Other speakers will include Coach Wannstedt, Pitt chancellor Mark Nordenberg and athletic director Steve Pederson.
The Kickoff Luncheon is open to the general public and is $40 per person. For more information or to make reservations, call the Panther Club at (412) 648-8889.
