Coach Chryst Post Game Quotes vs. New Mexico - Sept. 14

Sept. 14, 2013

PITT COACH Paul Chryst QUOTESHEET

Pitt vs. New Mexico, Sept. 14, 2013

Head Coach Paul Chryst

Opening comments:

“It was good to play and come away with the win. Anytime you win the game, there are players that do things to help the team win by making plays. Clearly, there are a lot of areas we have to clean up. Our special teams were not very good as a whole. Offensively, we had turnovers and another ball we did not lose. We gave up two interceptions and a fumble. We jumped three times on the defensive line. Yet, at the same time, guys made some good plays.”

On the performance of Tyler Boyd:

“He was good. He was fun to watch. I thought he did some really good things. I’ve learned not to be surprised by Tyler. I think he can still be better. I certainly appreciate the way he approaches the game and competes and plays. He’s fun to be around.”

On the rushing of James Conner:

“We were able to get him a few more rush attempts. I thought that was the way he ran last game, so that’s good.”

On the performance of the defense:

“Our defense took the field in some tough situations. We’re capable of being pretty good if everyone does their job to the best of their ability.”

On the performance of Tom Savage:

“I thought he was good. He didn’t want to throw that first interception. As he should be, Tom is confident in who he is and who we are.”

On Todd Thomas stopping the fake punt attempt:

“That was a big play. It still takes him putting himself in that situation, but that was nice to see him make that play.”

On the defense’s performance against New Mexico’s offense and running back Kasey Carrier:

“When you are defending an offense like that, everybody has to do their assignments. The way it turned out, our players were right with their assignments and that was as much of it as anything.”
