PITTSBURGH - Six Pitt football players have been named to the All-Big East Team, announced the league office on Thursday. Ray Graham and Aaron Donald were awarded first team honors, while Mike Shanahan, Devin Street, Ryan Turnley and Jason Hendricks were named to the second team.
Graham (Elizabeth, N.J./Elizabeth) has been honored for the second time on the first team, as he was also a member of the 2011 squad. In 2012, Graham has rushed for 1,042 yards on 222 attempts (4.7 avg.) and 11 touchdowns on the year, as well as 36 receptions for 340 yards and two TDs.
Also with his second all-conference nod is Donald (Pittsburgh, Pa.,/Penn Hills) who was named to the All-Big East second team in 2011. Donald has been a disruptive force on the defensive line, leading the league in tackles for loss with 18.5 in 2012. Additionally, he totaled 63 total tackles, 5.5 sacks and a team-high 11 quarterback hurries.
Pitt placed two wide receivers on the second team including Shanahan (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) and Street (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty). Shanahan finished the regular season second in the league in receiving yards per game with 77.2. He has recorded 58 receptions for 926 yards (16.0 avg.) and a team-best five touchdowns. Shanahan ranks fifth at Pitt all-time with 158 career catches and is ninth with 2,219 career receiving yards.
Street finished the regular season with a team-best 66 receptions for 892 yards (13.5 avg.) and four TDs. His 66 receptions ranks second in the Big East and his 74.3 yards receiving per game are third. The junior is ranked sixth in career receptions at Pitt (144) and is 10th in career receiving yards (1,964).
Turnley (Hopewell, Pa./Hopewell), Pitt's second year starter at center, has been the Panthers most consistent offensive lineman for the year. He has now started 25 consecutive games for the Panthers and has played in 42 contests during his time at Pitt.
At safety, Hendricks (Brooklyn, N.Y./Hudson Catholic) led the Big East and is 11th nationally in interceptions per game with 0.42 (five total). His 73 tackles on the year also lead the Panthers and he twice led the team with 11 tackles in a game (vs. Syracuse and Buffalo).
Pitt (6-6, 3-4 Big East) will take on the Rebels of Ole Miss (6-6, 3-5 SEC) on Saturday, Jan. 5 at 1 p.m. in the BBVA Compass Bowl in Birmingham, Ala.
