January 1, 1937 - Pitt beats Washington to win Rose Bowl

Pitt, which finished the season 2nd in the country, defeated the University of Washington, 21-0, to win its first ever Rose Bowl. After three tries, coach Jock Sutherland wins the Rose Bowl with the Panthers.

Pitt's Bobby Grier becomes the first African American player to play in the Sugar Bowl

Grier was a Pitt linebacker and full back who broke the color barrier of the collegiate Sugar Bowl Game. At a time when racial segregation was rampant in the Deep South, Grier's presence in the Sugar Bowl was seen as an extremely significant event.

November 13, 1999 - Pitt defeats Notre Dame in last game at Pitt Stadium

The Panthers finished off their time at Pitt Stadium in style, defeating the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, 37-27, before a sellout crowd of 60,190 people.

November 12, 1955 - Panthers crush Mountaineer bowl hopes

The Panthers upset West Virginia, 26-7, at Pitt Stadium. The unexpected victory kept the Mountaineers out of a bowl game and ended their bid for an undefeated season much to the delight of the Panther crowd.
