November 15, 1975 - Dorsett powers Pitt over Notre Dame

The Panthers defeated the Irish, 34-20, at Pitt Stadium as Tony Dorsett runs for 303 yards in the victory. It was the first major victory for Coach Johnny Majors, who was in his third season as Pitt's coach

Scott McKillop leads entire nation in tackles in 2007

McKillop emerged as one of the best defensive players in the country in 2007. He ended the year with 151 tackles, which led the nation and ranked third on Pitt's all time list.


Matchup 2

November 13, 2004 - Pitt defeats Notre Dame 41-38 in South Bend

The Panthers, led by Tyler Palko's five touchdown passes, defeated the Irish 41-38 at Notre Dame Stadium. It was the first time ever that a quarterback had thrown for five touchdowns against Notre Dame. Josh Cummings' field goal with one second left provides the winning points.

Hugh Green wins the 1980 Lombardi, Maxwell and Walter Camp Awards

Hugh Green was an excellent linebacker for the Pitt Panthers in the late 1970's. Green had his best year in 1980 when he won the Lombardi, Maxwell and Walter Camp Awards.

December 26, 1975 - Pitt beats Kansas in the Sun Bowl

The Panthers roll over the Kansas Jayhawks by a score of 33-19 in the 1975 Sun Bowl. Three Panthers, running backs Tony Dorsett and Elliot Walker and quarterback Robert Haygood, all rushed for 100 yards in the game.

September 18, 1997 - Pitt shocks Miami

The Panthers pulled of a major upset over the Miami Hurricanes, 21-17, at Pitt Stadium. Pete Gonzalez led the Panther offense, passing for 187 yards and two touchdowns while also rushing for 63 yards and another touchdown.

The Hiring of Johnny Majors as head football coach

Johnny Majors was a very successful college football coach for over 20 years. He led the Panthers to the 1976 national championship and would be named National Coach of the Year the same season.

November 2, 2002 - Pitt beats 3rd ranked Virginia Tech

The Panthers defeated the third ranked Hokies in Blacksburg, 28-21. Pitt running back Brandon Miree scored the game winning touchdown on a 53-yard run with a little over four minutes left in the game.
