Box Score

INDIANOLA, Pa. - First-year player Olutmi Ibikunle scored a goal in the 105th minute to give the Pitt men's soccer team a 2-1 double overtime decision against St. Bonaventure on Sunday afternoon at Founders Field. The come-from-behind victory improves Pitt to 2-0-0 on the year, while St. Bonaventure falls to 1-1-0. Pitt opens a season with two wins for the first time since 2002.

The Bonnies took an early 1-0 lead when Chris Leko scored in the 27th minute after he controlled a crossing pass from Joshua Gonsalves and looped the ball over Pitt goalkeeper Hami Kara's head.

The Panthers responded just minutes into the second half when Justin Boehm tied the game at 1-1. In the 61st minute, Sam Luffy crossed the ball deep into the left corner of the penalty box, where Boehm one-timed it past the St. Bonaventure goalkeeper and into the lower left corner of the net.  The score marks Boehm's first of the season and his fourth career goal as a Panther.

The game remained tied through the first overtime despite various scoring opportunities for the Panthers.

It wasn't until the final minutes of the second overtime period that Pitt was able to capitalize off its strong offensive presence. In the 104th minute, Andy Kalas presented Pitt with its best scoring opportunity after he headed a ball that hit off the crossbar.

Just a minute later, a corner kick from Alex Grayson allowed Kalas to head the ball towards the net where it was blocked by a Bonnies defender. Ibikunle, who scored his first career goal as a Panther, quickly rebounded the shot and fired the ball into the back of the net to give the Panthers their second victory of the year.

Pitt outshot St. Bonaventure 17-7 in the game.

Pitt is back in action against crosstown rival Duquesne on Tuesday, Sept. 7 at Rooney Field. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
