The Panthers defeated the Villanova Wildcats 1-0 on Sept. 18. Senior forward Phil Matilla (Wyomissing, Pa./Wilson) scored the lone goal for Pittsburgh 57:10 into the game. Sophomore forward Spencer Barton (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) assisted on the score. Senior goalkeeper Chris Hanlon (Davenport, Iowa/Wilson West Lawn) recorded six saves and the shutout for the Panthers.

Pittsburgh then traveled to Rutgers and was defeated by the Scarlet Knights, 1-0, in overtime. Rutgers outshot the Panthers, 23-4. Brian Piesner scored the game-winning goal for the Scarlet Knights just 2:25 into overtime off an assist by Chris Stewart. Pittsburgh's Hanlon recorded seven saves, including two in overtime.

The Panthers schedule moves to 4-1-2 overall, 1-1-1 in the Big East. Rutgers record is 3-2-1 overall, 3-0 in conference play.

Pittsburgh returns home to take on Providence in a conference matchup on Sunday, Sept. 27, at 1 p.m. at Pitt Stadium.
