Men's Soccer Falls to Providence

Pittsburgh -- The Pittsburgh Panther men's soccer team lost its second straight conference game today in a 2-0 shutout by Providence College.
Despite outshooting the Friars 14-11, Pittsburgh was unable to capitalize on opportunities. Freshmen midfielders Peter Veltri (Washington, Pa./Trinity) and Jason Thackery (Rochester, Minn./Mayo) both had shots on goal that hit the crossbar. Junior midfielder Reagan Bender (Willow Street, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) led the Panthers with three shots.
Providence was led by forward Kevin Jones, who scored both goals for the Friars and recorded five shots. His first goal came unassisted 37:31 minutes into the game. His second was scored on a breakaway at 46:51.
Pittsburgh's record falls to 4-2-2, 1-2-1 in the Big East. Providence moves to 3-5-0, 2-2-0 in conference play.
The Panthers return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 30 when they host Big East opponent West Virginia at Pitt Stadium. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
