Men's Soccer Blanked by West Virginia

PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Panther men's soccer team was shutout, 3-0, by Big East foe West Virginia tonight at Pitt Stadium. It was the third straight loss for the Panthers.

Mountaineer midfielder Craig Patton scored the first goal for West Virginia off a header 12:32 into the contest. Jason Robinson recorded the assist. Forward Chin Orih added the second tally 12 minutes into the second half. Orih recorded his second goal of the night, and the final score for the Mountaineers, off of a throw-in by Matt Mahar with 11 minutes remaining in the game.

Junior midfielder Reagan Bender (Willow Street, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) led Pittsburgh with three shots. Goalkeeper Chris Hanlon (Davenport, Iowa/Wilson West Lawn) recorded five saves in the face of 16 shots.

The Panthers' record falls to 4-3-2 overall, 1-3-1 in the Big East. West Virginia is 6-2 overall, 2-2 in conference play.

Pittsburgh travels to Boston College on Sunday, Oct. 3, for a Big East matchup. Game time is 1 p.m.
