INDIANOLA, Pa.--In a game which saw 32 combined fouls, one goal was all Pitt needed to defeat Marquette 1-0 Sunday afternoon at Founders Field.  Sophomore Andy Kalas provided the game wining goal in the 54th minute.

The win improves Pitt's record to 6-4-1 overall and 2-3-0 in Big East play.  Marquette drops to 2-5-3 overall and 1-4-1 in Big East play.

The Panthers scored in the 54th minute when senior E.J. McCormick sent an indirect kick into the middle of the field which was headed into the lower left corner of the goal by Andy Kalas.  This was Kala's third career goal.  Pitt squandered an early chance to score in the first five minutes when a corner kick was headed toward the goal by McCormick but was saved by Marquette goalkeeper Matt Pyzdrowski.

Pitt goalkeeper Jordan Marks had an excellent game helping Pitt record its fifth shutout of the season.  Marks had two huge saves late in the game that secured the win for the Panthers.  On the season Pittsburgh ranks No. 11 nationally in save percentage (.891), 21st in team goals against average (0.57 GAA through 10 games) and they are tied at No. 30 in shutout percentage (with a 0.5 percentage).

Next up for the Panthers is Big East rival West Virginia Wednesday, October 5th in Morgantown.  Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
