Men's Soccer Ties Rival West Virginia 1-1 in Double Overtime
MORGANTOWN, WVA.--Pitt and West Virginia men's soccer teams played to a 1-1 tie at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium Wednesday night in Morgantown, WV.
The tie puts Pitt's overall record at 6-4-2 and 2-3-1 in Big East play. West Virginia is now 3-4-4 overall and 2-1-3 in Big East play.
WVU took a 1-0 lead in the 38th minute when Alex Yost scored on assists by Paul Paradise and Daniel Hagey. West Virginia led for most of the second half until Pitt junior Mike McDade scored on a penalty kick in the 84th minute to tie the game 1-1.
Pitt was outshot 20-10 in the match but made up for it by having six more shots on goal than West Virginia.
The Panthers came out firing in the second period, having eight of their 10 shots, seven of them being shots on goal. Despite having seven shots on goal in the second period only one was able to get past West Virginia goalkeeper Zach Johnson who made eight saves in the game.
Wednesday's match marks the fifth overtime game the Panthers have played this season and the fourth match that has gone into double overtime. The Panthers are now 2-1-2 in overtime games. WVU leads the all-time series 31-9-4.
On Saturday, October 11 the Panthers will travel to South Bend, Indiana to face Notre Dame. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
