EAST ORANGE, N.J.-The Pitt men's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to Seton Hall Saturday at Owen T. Carroll Field. The Panthers will conclude their 2006 season on Monday and move into their final regular season game standing at 5-10-2 overall and 4-5-1 in the Big East. This match up marked the end of the Pirates' regular season as they finished 9-7-1 and 7-4-0 in the Big East. Both teams have earned births in the conference championship series due to start next week.

Seton Hall struck late in the first half to go ahead 1-0. At the 39th minute mark, senior David Roman tallied his third goal of the season. Eliseo Giusfredi sent a ball towards the front of the net, which was headed by teammate Teddy Niziolek to Roman who settled it and shot the ball past Panther goalie Andy Jorgensen (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East/Elizabethtown).

Pitt had an opportunity in the 62nd minute to even the score when senior Tyler Bastianelli (Bear, Del./St. Mark's) sent a blazing shot from 25 yards out toward the Pirate goal. Bastianelli's shot ricocheted off the right goal post, keeping the score 1-0 in Seton Hall's favor.

Freshman Matt Baker (Bethlehem, Pa./Bethlehem) also came close to tying the score when he took a header at close range in front of the Pirate net. Baker's shot went right into the hands of Seton Hall goalie Ian Joyce, as the Pirates preserved their lead once again.

Giusfredi finished the game with less than a minute to go when he sent a shot into the upper corner of the Pitt net to move the score to it's final of 2-0. Giusfredi has now earned nine goals on the season.

The Panthers will finish out their regular season Monday, Oct. 23, at 7 p.m. as they visit West Virginia to play a game that was postponed early this season. Pitt will wait to see who they face in the first round of Big East playoffs scheduled to begin Wednesday, Oct. 25.
