INDIANOLA, Pa.--Pitt recorded a season-high 20 shots, as the men's soccer team tied Cleveland State, 2-2, this evening at Founder's Field. Pitt's record stands at 1-11-2 overall, while Cleveland State is now 5-6-4 on the year.
The Panthers out-shot the Vikings, 20-6 in the contest, including an 8-3 second period, where Pitt scored both of its goals. First, sophomore Sam Luffy tied the match at 1-1 with a goal off a corner kick served in by classmate Matt Baker, just six minutes into the second half.
Next, in the 56th minute, sophomore Ryan Brode gave Pitt a 2-1 advantage with a goal from senior Chris Wilcox.
Cleveland State's Josh Williams would knot the score once again with about seven minutes to go in regulation. Williams assisted on the first goal of the day to Slavisa Ubiparipovic.
In the overtimes, Pitt took five shots and nearly connected with 15 seconds remaining on the clock, as Wilcox took a shot from the right side that skid past the goalie and hit the goal post, going wide.
Goalkeeper Zack Matthews recorded two saves in the match, while Brad Stuver tallied eight for the Vikings.
The Panthers are back in action on Saturday, Oct. 24, at 1 p.m., hosting Notre Dame.
