PITTSBURGH-A goal by visiting Georgetown in the 27th minute was enough to break Pittsburgh's six-game unbeaten streak and give the Hoyas a 1-0 victory over the Panthers in their season finale.

The Hoyas' Kevin Sindelar headed in a pass from Tony Soric at the 26:08 mark past Panther goalkeeper Justin Gaul (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./William Tennent) for the game's lone goal.

Pittsburgh had several chances to tie the game but Georgetown's defense did not allow more than a handful of quality Panther shots and Brian O'Hagan made four saves for the Hoyas in goal.

Georgetown outshot Pittsburgh, 10-9, in a closely matched game. The Panthers had a 4-3 shot advantage in the second half after the Hoyas held a 7-5 margin in attempts in the first frame. Soric had a game-high three shots for Georgetown, with two of those coming on a quality scoring chance from seven yards out. His first shot deflected off of Gaul's hands and the rebound sailed over Gaul and hit the crossbar.

The Panthers had numerous chances off of nine corner kicks, but couldn't get the ball past O'Hagan.

The game marked the end of five Panthers' careers: Chris Churchill (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley), Joe Conlan (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven), Jorge Rivera (Roanoke, Va./Cave Spring), Mark Sikora (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) and Peter Veltri (Washington, Pa./Trinity).

Pittsburgh finished the 2001 season with a record of 6-8-3 and 2-6-2 in the Big East Conference.
