PITTSBURGH - Pitt men's soccer kicks off its home campaign on Saturday, Sept. 1, hosting Saint Francis (PA) at Ambrose Urbanic Field at the Petersen Sports Complex. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
Pitt (1-0-1) is coming off a 1-0 victory over Howard on Sunday, August 26 in the Duquesne Invitational. Freshman Nick Wysong, who assisted on the game-winning score, earned tournament co-MVP honors. Also named to the Duquesne Invitational All-Tournament team were: sophomore Lee Johnston, junior Alex Harrison and freshman Kevin Fielden.
The Panthers are 23-18-7 all-time in home openers, including a 17-7-3 mark under head coach Joe Luxbacher.
Pitt holds a 16-2-0 overall record against SFU with all 18 meetings during Luxbacher's tenure (29th season this year). The last time the Panthers and the Red Flash met was last season in Loretto, Pa., a 3-0 win for SFU. Pitt has never lost to Saint Francis at home, boasting a perfect 9-0 record.
The Red Flash (1-0-1) registered a 1-0 road win against Cincinnati on Thursday evening. Dating back last season, Saint Francis - who was ranked seventh in the North Atlantic region rankings on Monday - has not allowed a goal in eight consecutive games.
Pitt, who are ranked first in the Big East in corners (10.50 a game), field a team that is comprised of 17 underclassmen.
