Senior Defender Clay Haflich Earns Soccer America Weekly Honors

9/4/2003

Senior defender Clay Haflich named to Soccer America Team of the Week

PITTSBURGHSenior defender Clay Haflich (Fort Collins, Colo./Poudre) was named to Soccer America’s Team of the Week for his defensive contributions in Pittsburgh’s 1-0 victory over then-No. 14 Boston College on August 30.

Earlier in the week, Haflich was honored by the Big East Conference as its Defensive Player of the Week, his first such recognition. Haflich’s leadership and tough style of play on defense make him the anchor of a young but physical Panthers defense.

Entering his second season as the team’s captain, Haflich has started all 54 games in his three-plus years as a Panther, while contributing four goals and two assists to the Pittsburgh offense.

The Panthers return to action this weekend to face No. 17 Hartwick College (Sept. 6) in the Mayors Cup hosted by Oneonta State University.
