Host Oneonta State drops Panthers 1-0 in Mayors Cup finale

ONEONTA, N.Y.—The No. 18 ranked Pittsburgh Men’s Soccer team recorded its second consecutive 1-0 loss in as many days when it was defeated by host Oneonta State Sunday afternoon in the closing game of the Mayors Cup.
The loss dropped the No. 18 ranked Panthers to 1-2-0 overall. Oneonta State improved its record to 3-2-0 overall on the season.
Oneonta State senior, Jamie Amaoko, notched the game’s only goal when he lifted a shot over the head of Panthers’ goalkeeper Justin Lowery (Atlanta, Ga./Paideia School) in the 22nd minute of play. Lowery finished the game with only two saves, while facing five shots.
Despite the score, the Panthers held an overwhelming edge in shots 17-5, but could not convert any of its scoring chances. Pittsburgh junior midfielder Marco Carrizales (Missouri City, Texas/Alfonso Crutch) led the Panthers with five shots in the contest.
The Panthers return home on Wednesday, Sept. 10th to host cross town rival Robert Morris at Founders Field. Game time is 7 p.m.
