PITTSBURGH – Pitt junior Nico Wrobel was selected ECAC Men’s Soccer Player of the week, it was announced today. The forward scored three goals in a 2-0 week for the Panthers.
On Monday, Wrobel was named Big East Offensive Player of the Week. The Berlin, Germany native scored twice – both a result of a penalty kick - in Pitt’s 3-1 win over IPFW at the Pitt/Nike Invitational on Sept. 7.
In a 1-0 win against Delaware on Sept. 9, Wrobel lined up for his seventh career penalty kick. Wrobel’s shot was stopped, but he was able to score with his rebound attempt. Both goals were game-winners.
Wrobel has tallied four goals on the season as the Panthers (3-2-0) remain unbeaten through five games for the first time since 2002. Wrobel is tied for 13th in the country in total goals in the first NCAA stat report of the season.
The Panthers return to action on Friday, Sept. 14, hosting Northern Kentucky at 7 p.m. at Ambrose Urbanic Field at the Petersen Sports Complex. The game will be broadcast on radio station WPTS (92.1).
