Sophomore forward Keeyan Young earned his third career Big East Conference Weekly Honor and became the third Panther this season to earn conference recognition.
PITTSBURGH—Sophomore forward Keeyan Young (North Wales, Pa./Haverford School) earned Big East Co-Offensive Player of the Week honors the league announced Monday. Young totaled three goals and led Pittsburgh to a 2-0 weekly record posting wins over both Bucknell (3-2) and Georgetown (2-1 double overtime road win).
Young earns his third career Big East Weekly honor, the other two coming last season when he was named Big East Rookie of the Week on both Sept. 9th and Oct. 7th. Young became Pittsburgh’s third student-athlete this season to garner weekly conference honors, the others being senior defender Clay Haflich (Fort Collins, Colo./Poudre) as Defender of the Week for Sept. 1st and redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Justin Lowery (Atlanta, Ga./Paideia School) the Goalkeeper of the Week also for the week of Sept. 1st.
Young’s career-high two goals proved to be the difference in the 2-1 double overtime win over Georgetown. This season Young leads the Panthers in scoring with six goals with five games remaining. His 13 points (six goals, one assist) matches last year’s scoring output. Three of Young’s six goals have been game-winners and two of the three game-winning goals were the difference in both of Pittsburgh’s Big East Conference victories.
Pittsburgh returns to action Saturday, Oct. 18th when it travels to Providence for a Big East match against Providence. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
