Men's Soccer Wins Close 3-2 Victory Over Seton Hall

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J.—The Pitt Panthers men's soccer team edged out Seton Hall to win 3-2 Saturday afternoon in South Orange, N.J.
The win improves Pitt to 7-6-2 overall and 3-5-1 in Big East play. Seton Hall drops to 6-7-4 overall and 2-4-4 in Big East play.
The Panthers were down two goals in the first half, but rallied to score three straight and win the game. Both of Seton Hall’s goals came off corner kicks that were headed into the corner of the goal. Seton Hall’s first goal was scored by Dritan Sela and assists were made by Brayan Martinez. Their second goal was scored by Carlos Salazar and assisted by Andrew Welker and Christia Vercollone.
Pitt came back from a 2-0 deficit to score three in a row, including Joe Prince Wright’s game winning goal in the 84th minute. Their rally started with a Joe Prince Wright goal, when he headed the ball into the net off a free kick from E.J. McCormick. McCormick scored the next goal when he controlled a pass from Mike McDade and beat two defenders to score. Pitt finished off their comeback Prince Wright received a cross from Justin Boehm and put it into the goal.
Pitt’s senior goalkeeper made nine saves and allowed two goals. Seton Hall outshot Pitt on the day 19 to 16, but in the end Pitt was able to pull out the win.
Pitt’s next game will be against the University of Connecticut on Tuesday October 28 in the home finale. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
