Bill Weaver, a former All-American swimmer at Ohio State, enters his
first season as the men's assistant swimming coach for the University of
Pittsburgh.
"Bill has achieved at the highest levels of NCAA and international
competition, and has followed that up with some impressive coaching
experience as well," said Pittsburgh Head Coach Chuck Knoles. "He gives
us the depth of experience we need to be able to crack the Top 20 a bit
faster than before."
Weaver joined Pittsburgh from San Diego, Calif., where he spent the
past year coaching the North Coast Aquatics club team.
Prior to North Coast Aquatics, Weaver was the head coach for the St.
Charles Swim Team in Illinois. He has both
assisted in and been responsible for the development and training of
every level of swimmer from the beginner to the Olympic Trials finalist.
Additionally, Weaver served as a freelance writer for Triathlete
Magazine, writing articles on stroke mechanics and training techniques.
Weaver was a four-time All-American swimmer at Ohio State, where he
earned three Big Ten Conference championship titles and served as a team
captain. After qualifying for the U.S. National Team, Weaver claimed
silver medals at the 1995 U.S. National Swimming Championships, U.S.
Open and World University Games (held in Japan). In 1996, Weaver was a
finalist at the U.S. Swimming Olympic Trials.
Weaver earned a bachelor's degree in environmental science from Ohio
State in 1995.
Weaver, his wife Deborah, and their son Lain, currently reside in
Regent Square.
