PITTSBURGH-The University of Pittsburgh men's and women's track and field teams posted several impressive performances on the third and final day of the 2012 NCAA East Regional Track and Field Championships in Jacksonville, Fla. on Saturday.
For the women's team, senior Cambrya Jones crossed the finish line in third in the 200-meter dash quarterfinals with a time of 22.72 to advance to the NCAA Championships in Des Moines, Iowa from June 6-9. Jones' time eclipsed her previous school record of 22.91 she set earlier this season.
Jones is set to run in two meets at the NCAA Championships after qualifying for nationals in the 100-meter dash on Friday.
The 400-meter relay team of sophomores Jordan Hoyt and Arielle Fonrose and juniors Ashley Woodford and Jonnique Lawrence also advanced to the NCAA Championships with is seventh place finish (44.81) in the quarterfinal round.
On the men's side, freshman Joshua Thompson qualified for his first NCAA Championships appearance with his 12th place finish of 13.87 in the 110-meter hurdles quarterfinals. Thompson advanced to the quarterfinals with a time of 13.80 in the prelims on Friday.
Senior Jermaine Lowery also qualified for nationals in the 400-meter hurdles with his eighth place finish (50.65) in the quarterfinals on Friday.
