PITTSBURGH-The University of Pittsburgh men’s and women’s track and field teams began competition on Wednesday at the NCAA Outdoor Championships at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.
For the women’s team, senior Cambrya Jones narrowly missed qualifying for the 100-meter dash finals with a 10th place finish in the prelims (11.33).
She will compete in the 200-meter dash prelims on Thursday. Jones enters the race as the No. 3 seed.
On the men’s side, senior Jermaine Lowery crossed the finish line in 52.23 in the 400-meter hurdles prelims.
The race marks the end of Lowery’s collegiate career. He was a Big East champion in the 400-meter hurdles this season and also earned a gold medal at the Big East Championships as part of the 1,600-meter relay team.
“Jermaine has meant a tremendous amount to our program,” Pitt head coach Alonzo Webb said. “He always put the team before himself. He’s going to have success in whatever he does moving forward.”
Lowery’s teammate, freshman Joshua Thompson, will compete on Thursday in the 110-meter hurdles prelims.
