PITTSBURGH-The University of Pittsburgh men’s and women’s track and field teams finished their seasons on Thursday on day two of the NCAA Outdoor Championships at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.
For the women’s team, senior Cambrya Jones narrowly missed qualifying for the 200-meter dash finals as she finished ninth (22.76) in the 200-meter prelims.
This season she broke school records in both the 100 and 200-meter dashes while winning the Big East Outdoor Championship in both events and claiming the ECAC title in the 100-meter dash.
Jones is still set to compete in the U.S.A. Olympic Team Trials from June 22-25 in Eugene, Ore.
“Cambrya had an incredible season,” Pitt head coach Alonzo Webb said. “She wanted to have a great senior year and was very focused all season. I’m really proud of her efforts and she set the standard on what is expected now.”
On the men’s side, freshman Joshua Thompson crossed the finish line in 14.12 in the 110-meter hurdles prelims. He was just one of two freshmen to qualify for nationals in the event.
“This was a great experience for him to build on,” Webb said. “He’s already looking forward to next season.”
