Panthers Compete at Kentucky Invitational

PITTSBURGH - Members of the University of Pittsburgh track and field teams competed at the Kentucky Invitational as part of the opening weekend of its indoor season. Individuals from both the men's and women's team posted solid showings throughout the two-day event, including numerous top-10 marks. Freshman Antony Hobwana (Harare, Zimbabwe/Prince Edward School) and junior Eric Jones (Pittsburgh, Pa./Gateway) fourth and fifth in the triple jump after recording distances of 14.47 and 14.37 meters, respectively. Hobwana also placed fourth in the 60 meters and seventh in the finals of the 200 meter dash. Sophomore Kaetlyn Brown (Pittsburgh, Pa./Schenley) took a fifth-place plaudit in the women's 400 meter final after crossing the finish line in 56.34. Fellow sophomore Shanae' Thomas (Philadelhia, Pa./John Hallahan Catholic) recorded a distance of 11.02 meters in the finals of the women's triple jump to grab eighth place in the event. Mycaiah Clemons (New Kensington, PA./Virginia Tech) also found herself in eighth place at the conclusion of the women's 60-meter hurdles after a Big East qualifying time of 8.67. And two-time indoor All-Big East selection Shantea Calhoun (New Haven, Conn./Wilbur Cross) claimed eighth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.02. The Panthers finished the competition by putting up a sixth-place effort in the women's 1,600-meter relay. The squad completed the event in 3:52.54. Pitt's season will continue next weekend when they will once again travel to two meets. Some members of the team will make the trek back to Lexington, Ky., for the Kentucky Rod MCravy Memorial, while others will head across the state to take part in the Penn State Indoor Open.
