Track and Field Takes on Competition at Penn State Indoor Open

PITTSBURGH - The Pitt men's track and field team continued its 2007-08 indoor season this weekend at the Penn State Indoor Open. The Panthers posted numerous top-five performances in their first of three consecutive weekend trips to State College this season.
Antony Hobwana (Harare, Zimbabwe/Prince Edward School) clocked in at 6.95 seconds in the finals of the men's 60 meters, claiming third-place overall. Hobwana also took seventh in the long jump competition.
Seniors Sam Bair (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) and Eric Fleming (West Chester, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) took second and third in the 1000 meters, respectively with Big East and IC4A qualifying times of 2:23.85 and 2:26.08.
Freshman Josh Christopher (Irwin, Pa./Penn-Trafford) took fourth in the 3000 meters with a mark of 8:51.01, narrowly missing out on third-place honors.
In the triple jump, junior Eric Jones (Pittsburgh, Pa./Gateway) grabbed fifth with a distance of 14.48 meters.
Pitt will return to State College, Pa., next week for the Penn State National Open on Jan. 25-26.
