Pittsburgh Indoor Track and Field Teams Have Success at the Red Simmons Invite

Junior Kimberly Lyles and senior Trenace Elliott placed first in the 200 and 400 meters, respectively.

PITTSBURGH—The University of Pittsburgh indoor track and field teams competed Saturday at the Red Simmons Invite in Ann Arbor, Mi.

            The women had success with junior Kimberly Lyles (Somerset, NJ/Franklin) placing first in the 200 meters in a time of 24.87. Senior Trenace Elliott (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch) also ran to a first place finish in the 400 meters with a time of 56.03. Freshman Fatmata Fofonah (Bronx, NY/Bronx) and senior Elizabeth Bayne (Hampton, Va./Kecoughtan) tied for a second place finish in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.61. Junior Amanda Walker (Hampton, Va./Bethel High) placed third in the shot put with a throw of 15.17 meters.

            For the men, sophomore Troy Roberson (Westminster, Pa./William Tennent) ran to a third place finish in the 400 meters in a time of 50.19, while junior teammate Jeryl Wilborn (Milton, Pa./Milton Area) also placed third in the 800 meters with a time of 1:52.48. Sophomore Jeff Kiss (Windber, Pa./Windber) finished third in the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 8.43. In the field events, senior Matt Brousse (Carlisle, Pa./Lock Haven University) finished third in the pole vault with a score of 4.76 meters. Freshman Justin Clickett (Union City, Pa./Union City Area) also placed third in the shot put with a throw of 16.30 meters.

            The Panthers’ next competition is Jan. 30-31 at the Penn State National Open in State College, Pa.
