PROVIDENCE, R.I. – After his record-setting weekend at the Penn State National, junior sprinter Brycen Spratling has been named the Big East Track Athlete of the Week, as announced by league officials on Tuesday afternoon.
Sprarling won the 200 and the 400 meter dash and set records in both races last weekend. In the 200 meter dash, the Webster, N.Y. native broke his own school record in a time of 21.01. He then set the new meet record in the 400 meter dash with a winning time of 46.25.
Spratling, who was the NCAA national runner-up last season in the 400, posted the nation’s second fastest 400 time with his performance at Penn State. He trails only Deon Lendore of Texas A&M who ran a 45.91 two weekends ago.
The junior has set himself up for a return trip to the NCAA championship, as the top-16 times from across the country will compete at NCAA’s hosted by Arkansas on March 8-9. Spratling also ranks 10th in the 200 meter dash after last weekend.
The Panthers are back in action this coming weekend at the Akron Invitational. The two-day meet begins on Friday evening and concludes on Saturday afternoon.
