Pittsburgh Indoor Track and Field Teams Compete at Penn State National Open

Top performers included senior Trenace Elliott and juniors Tamara McGill and Jeryl Wilborn.
PITTSBURGH—The University of Pittsburgh indoor track and field teams competed this weekend at the Penn State National Open in State College, Pa.
Once again, the women performed well with senior Trenace Elliott (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch) placing first in the 400 meters with a time of 54.91. Junior Tamara McGill (Franklin Park, NJ/Franklin Township) also placed first in the heptathlon scoring 3,718 points. Freshman Fatmata Fofanah (Bronx, NY/Bronx) ran to a third place finish in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.59, while freshman teammate Suzy Bossart (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg-Salem) placed fourth in the 5,000 meters running 17:36.9. Junior Amanda Walker (Hampton, Va./Bethel High) finished second in the shot put with a throw of 15.38 meters. The Panthers 4x400 relay team of Kimberly Lyles (Somerset, NJ/Franklin), Elizabeth Bayne (Hampton, Va./Kecoughtan), Lamoy Stephens (Westmoreland, Jamaica) and Trenace Elliott placed second with a time of 3:38.34.
For the men, junior Jeryl Wilborn (Milton, Pa./Milton Area) ran to a third place finish in the 800 meters with a time of 1:57.18. Senior Mike Stellefson (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) placed fifth in the shot put with a throw of 15.75 meters. Freshman Eric Fleming (West Chester, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) finished ninth in the one mile with a time of 4:13.69. The 4x400 relay team of Troy Roberson (Warminster, Pa./William Tennent), Kareem Cousar (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic), Deon Bascom (Newark, NJ/Essex Community College) and Jeryl Wilborn placed ninth with a time of 3:18.46.
The Panthers’ next competition is Feb. 7 at the Kent State Invitational in Kent, Oh.
