Pittsburgh Indoor Track and Field Teams Compete at the Big East Championships

The women's squad placed third, while the men finished tenth.

PITTSBURGH—The University of Pittsburgh indoor track and field teams competed this weekend at the Big East Championships in Syracuse, N.Y. The women’s team placed third and the men’s squad finished tenth. The women’s team finished with 102 points, while the men’s team had 36 points.

            Senior Elizabeth Bayne (Hampton, Va./Kecoughtan) ran to a first place finish in the 800 meters with a time of 2:11.50. Junior Amanda Walker (Hampton, Va./Bethel High) won the shot put with a throw of 15.57 meters. Walker also placed second in the weight throw with a final throw of 18.74 meters. Sophomore Marissa Dudek (Pottstown, Pa./St. Pius) placed first in the pole vault with a jump of 3.80 meters. Junior Tamara McGill (Franklin Park, N.J./Franklin Park) also placed first in the pentathlon with a score of 3,845. The women’s 4x400 meter relay team of Kimberly Lyles (Somerset, N.J./Frankling), Bayne, Lamoy Stephens (Westmoreland, Jamaica) and Trenace Elliott (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch) placed second with a time of 3:46.86. Lyles also had success in the 60 meter run, where she placed second and the 200 meters, where she placed third with times of 7.57 and 23.98, respectively.

            On the men’s side, senior Matt Brousse (Carlisle, Pa./Lock Haven University) placed third in the pole vault with a jump of 4.95 meters. Freshman teammate Justin Clickett (Union City, Pa./Union City Area) also placed third in the shot put with a throw of 16.84 meters, while senior Mike Stellefson (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) wasn’t too far behind placing fourth with a throw of 16.81 meters. Sophomore Troy Roberson (Warminster, Pa./William Tennent) ran to a fourth place finish in the 400 meters with a time of 48.99. Junior Jeryl Wilborn (Milton, Pa./Milton Area) finished fifth in the 800 meters with a time of 1:52.93.

            Pittsburgh returns to action March 5-6 to compete in the Notre Dame Last Chance Meet in South Bend, In.
