SOUTH BEND, Ind. – In the final weekend before the NCAA National Championship meet, seven members of the University of Pittsburgh track & field team head to the Alex Wilson Last Chance Meet on Saturday at Notre Dame.
As the top-16 times in the country make the championship meet for each event, some Panthers look to increase their standings, while others try to qualify for the meet hosted by the University of Arkansas.
Brycen Spratling and Carvin Nkanata currently sit tied for sixth and tied for eighth in the 400 meter dash with times of 46.25 and 46.31, respectively. Micah Murray will join them as he enters the race ranked 35th in the nation and will try to qualify for NCAA’s.
Those three athletes, along with Olivier Philogene, bring the country’s ninth fastest 4x400 meter relay time to South Bend. They ran a 3:07.32 at the Big East Championship meet and set a new meet record in the process.
Representing the women at the last chance meet will be Jonnique Lawrence and Arielle Fonrose. Lawrence is currently 29th in the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.64.
