CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Coming off a very impressive indoor season, the University of Pittsburgh track & field team is set to open its 2013 outdoor campaign this weekend at the Charlotte 49er.
Pitt racked up the accolades in the indoor season, led by Second-Team All-Americans Brycen Spratling and Carvin Nkanata. Both achieved All-American status by reaching the NCAA Championships for the 400 meter dash. The two also paired with Micah Murray and Olivier Philogene to run in the 4x400 meter relay at NCAA’s.
Spratling won the Big East Championship title in the 500 meter dash in an NCAA record-setting time of 1:00.37. Nkanata set a Big East Championship meet record as he won the 200 meter dash in personal-best time of 21.04, and the before mentioned 4x400 relay team also set a Big East record, racing to a time of 3:07.32.
For the women, Elizabeth Kline became the 10th student-athlete in program history to win the women’s indoor pentathlon at the Big East Championship, while Jonnique Lawrence captured the 200 meter title in a career-best time of 23.64.
Freshman distance runner Rachel Brown looks to build upon her stellar first indoor season for the women, while Matt Dallago and Andrew Cerrito anchor the men’s team.
