Bair Captures All-America Honors at NCAA Indoor Championships

March 16, 2008

PITTSBURGH--Senior track standout Sam Bair represented the University of Pittsburgh this weekend at the NCAA Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, Ark., and picked up the third All-America honor of his collegiate career.

Bair (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler/Kent State) placed fifth in the finals of the mile run with a time of 4:05.50.

His other All-America performances came at the 2006 NCAA outdoor meet, when he clocked in at  3:47.00 in the 1500 meters, and at last year's indoor competition after recording a seventh-place finish in the mile with a time of 4:01.99. Bair's two indoor honors make him one of only nine Pitt athletes to have been named an All-American at the indoor meet on two separate occasions.

Hurdler Mike Wray (Philadelphia, Pa./Central) also competed for the Panthers in this weekend's meet. Wray turned in a time of 7.77 in the preliminaries of the 60-meter hurdles, just .01 second away from qualifying for the finals in the event. He garnered an All-America accolade during last year's indoor event with a seventh-place finish in the same event.

The meet signaled the end of the men's and women's indoor season. Both teams will begin their outdoor seasons next weekend when they compete in the Miami Hurricane Invitational in Miami, Fla., on March 21-22.
