Track and Field Prepares for Another Eventful Weekend

PITTSBURGH-- The Pitt track and field team will travel to three different meets this weekend. Some of the Panthers will travel to Texas for the Texas Relays, while others compete at the Colonial Relays and others at the Washington and Jefferson Open.

 

Competing at the Texas Relays this weekend will be some of Pitt's top competitors. For the men, Mike Wray (Philadelphia, Pa./Central) will represent the Panthers on the hurdles, while teammate Sam Perkins (Kent, Ohio/Kent Roosevelt) will compete in the sprints.

 


 

 

The women hurdlers include senior Martina Hallman (Miami, Fla./Miami Southridge) and Selena Sappleton (Brooklyn, N.Y./Phillip Randolph). Hallman placed third overall in the long jump at the Miami Hurricane Invitational after recording a distance of 5.81 meters.

 

Mycaiah Clemons (New Kensington, Pa./Valley) will be a key competitor in the sprints and hurdles. Clemons took fifth place in the 100-meter hurdles at the Raleigh Relays last weekend after posting a time of 14.21.

 

At the Colonial Relays, many of Pitt's experienced athletes will compete. For the women, Ali Briggs (Washington, Pa./Washington) will compete in the 1500 meters, 800 meters and the 3200-meter relay. Briggs took eighth place at the Raleigh Relays in the 1500 meters.

 

Senior Amy Ruffolo (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny/Duquesne) will look too succeed in the 3000-meter steeplechase. At the Raleigh Relays, Ruffolo placed fourth overall in the event.

 

In the field events, Kim Rorabaugh (Clymer, Pa./Purchase Line) will compete in the hammer throw event. Rorabaugh took second in the event at the Raleigh Relays last weekend.

 

Competing in the men's pole vault will be junior Ron Walter (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin), who recently placed third in the event at the Raleigh Relays.

 

Will Grinstead (Hornell, N.Y./Hornell) is set to compete in the 400-meter hurdles, as he took fourth place at the Raleigh Relays with a time of 56.75.

 

In the high jump, James Pittenger (Warminster, Pa./William Tennent) will try to beat his fourth-place finish height of 1.90 meters.

 

Other Pitt track and field members will be at the W&J Open this weekend. Both meets are set to begin on Friday, April 4.
