PITTSBURGH-The University of Pittsburgh men's track and field team will split the squad between two meets for the third straight weekend. The Panthers will compete at the 46th annual Sea Ray Relays in Knoxville, Tenn., and the Bison Outdoor Classic in Lewisburg, Pa.
The Sea Ray Relays, held at Tom Black Track at LaPorte Stadium runs from April 11-14, while most of Pitt athletes will compete April 13-14. The Bison Outdoor Classic will take place April 14-15.
The Sea Ray Relays include the new Sea Ray Showcase on Saturday, a part of the meet that features only the top heats in nine different events. The Panthers will have seven athletes and two relay teams in the Sea Ray Showcase including sophomore Brycen Spratling in the 200 and 400-meter dashes.
The Panthers are coming off a successful weekend at the Pepsi Florida Relays and the Colonial Relays.
Highlighting the performances at the Florida Relays, the 800-meter relay team of freshman Joshua Thompson, sophomore Micah Murray and seniors Jermaine Lowery and Antony Hobwana posted a school record with a time of 1:23.78.
At the Colonial Relays, senior
Dontave Cowsette (1:51.69) and sophomore
Sam Negley (1:53.19) finished third and ninth, respectively in the 800-meter run.
Last year at the Sea Ray Relays, Lowery finished fourth in the 400-meter hurdles (51.95). Lowery also ran as part of the 1,600-meter relay team with Murray, Cowsette and senior Benjamin Hatch who finished third with a mark of 3:14.51.
At the Bison Outdoor Classic last season, senior Idris Kasumu captured first in the 100-meter dash.
