Pittsburgh Track and Field Teams Have Success at the Sea Ray Relays

PITTSBURGH—The University of Pittsburgh outdoor track and field teams competed over the weekend at the Sea Ray Relays in Knoxville, Tenn. Numerous athletes qualified for the Big East Championships as well as the IC4A’s and the ECAC’s.

            For the women, senior Trenace Elliott (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch) placed third in the 400 meters running a time of 53.50, her best performance of the season. Freshman Julianna Reed (Gibsonia, Pa./Hampton) qualified for the regional in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 60.78.  The 4x100 shuttle hurdle relay team of seniors Elizabeth Bayne (Hampton, Va./Kecoughtan) and Janine Jones (Newport News, Va./Menchville) and freshmen Fatmata Fofanah (Bronx, NY/Bronx) and Reed placed second with a time of 55.55, averaging 13.88 per person.

            On the men’s squad, senior Matt Brousse (Carlisle, Pa./Lock Haven University) won the pole vault with a personal record of 5.10 meters, also claiming the school record. Also capturing first place in the javelin was senior Mike Kennedy (Meadville, Pa./Meadville) with a throw of 66.20 meters. Freshman Andrew Tomaswick (Natrona Heights, Pa./Natrona Heights) ran to a third-place finish in the 10,000 meters in a time of 31:32.70.  Senior Mike Stellefson (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) placed fourth in the discus with a throw of 48.43 meters.

            The Panthers compete this weekend at the Mt. Sac Relays in Walnut, Ca.
