Panthers Have Standout Weekend at Aggie Invitational

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The University of Pittsburgh men’s and women’s track and field teams had a standout weekend at the Aggie Invitational hosted by North Carolina A&T which featured many first place finishes.

For the third consecutive meet, Brett Millar took first place in the javelin event. His distance of 62.40m was his second best throw of the season and he was three meters clear of second place. Pitt took first in the women’s javelin as well as Brooke Shasteen won the event with a distance of 38.78m.

The Panthers also won the men’s and the women’s 4x400 meter relay events. The men’s team of Micah Murray, Carvin Nkanata, Olivier Philogene and Brycen Spratling combined to win the event in a time of 3:08.64. The women’s team of Arielle Fonrose, Jonnique Lawrence, Jordan Lee and Evann Thompson blew away the field and won the race by 12 second with a time of 3:38.53.



Spratling ran Pitt’s fastest 400 meter dash time of the outdoor season as he won the event in a time of 46.29, while Nkanata placed third with a time of 46.67. Nkanata also set a personal-best in the 200 meter dash with a 21.03. He was the first collegiate finisher and placed second overall.

In the women’s 200 meter dash, Lawrence was the first collegiate finisher and was third overall with her best time of the outdoor season in 23.88. Former Pitt standout Cambrya Jones won the event in 23.31 as she was running unattached.

Evann Thompson won the college section of the 400 meter hurdles and was third overall with a time of 1:00.84, which was three tenths of a second off her career-best.

Other notable performances included a career-best 11.50 in the 100 meter dash from Ashley Woodford (4th overall), a career-best 51.31m by Haley Springman in the hammer throw (2nd overall) and an 11.81m in the triple jump and second place finish by Julia Koloski. The women’s 4x100 meter relay team took first place with a time of 45.88.

At the Bison Classic, Matt Dallago and Daniel Lipus highlighted the weekend for the Panthers as Dallago set a career-best in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 3:49.87, while Lipus was right behind him at 3:49.96. They finished 14th and 15th, respectively.

The Panthers are back in action next weekend at the Legacy Classic hosted by Morgan State and at the Larry Ellis Invitational hosted by Princeton.
