Pittsburgh Track and Field Teams Compete at the Slippery Rock University Invitational

The men's team has an impressive showing with four first-place finishes, while the women have three.

PITTSBURGH—The University of Pittsburgh outdoor track and field teams competed this weekend at the Slippery Rock University Invitational in Slippery Rock, Pa. The men captured four first-place finishes and the women had three first-place finishes.

            Junior Lauren Taylor (Newport News, Va./Menchville) placed first in the 400 meters with a time of 57.35. The women swept the 800 meter run with freshman Krystal Epps (Butler, Pa./Butler) placing first in 2:12.94, senior Janine Jones (Newport News, Va./Menchville) finishing second with a time of 2:16.84 and freshman Keisha Perry (Sharon Hill, Pa./Academy Park) rounding out the top three with a time of 2:19.55.  Freshman Leandra Golden (Hanover, Pa./Hanover) also placed first in the pole vault with a score of 11-09.75 feet.

            For the men’s squad, senior Matt Brousse (Carlisle, Pa./Lock Haven University) won the pole vault for the second time this season with a score16-00.25 feet.

Freshman Kareem Cousar (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic) won both the 200 meters and 400 meters with times of 22:12 and 48:85, respectively. Senior Deon Bascom (Newark, NJ/Essex Community College) also captured a first-place finish in the 800 meters running a time of 1:52.78. Senior Mike Stellefson (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) placed second in the discus with a throw of 153-06 feet. Also finishing second was sophomore Korey Gross (Burke, Va./Burke) in the triple jump with a jump of 47-11.5 feet.

            The Panthers compete this weekend at the prestigious Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pa.
