PITTSBURGH-The University of Pittsburgh men’s track and field team will travel to Tampa, Fla. this weekend to compete in the Big East Outdoor Championships May 4-6.
Pitt looks to build off its third-place finish at the Big East Indoor Championships earlier this year, as well as its strong performance last weekend at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pa.
Last year, sophomores Micah Murray and Reginald Steele IV earned All-Big East honors with second-place performances in the 400-meter dash (47.42) and long jump (7.48 meters), respectively. Senior Jermaine Lowery earned the bronze medal in the 400-meter hurdles (50.84).
The 1,600-meter relay team of Murray, Steele IV, Lowery and Caleb Matthews combined to place fifth with a mark of 3:11.98.
Last weekend at the Penn Relays, the 1,600-meter relay team of Jermaine Lowery, Murray, Cowsette and senior Jerome Lowery finished fifth (3:08.85) in the Championship of America Event.
Ijelu also finished third in the Eastern Schools Division triple jump (14.65 meters) while freshman Joshua Thompson crossed the finish line 11th in the 100-meter hurdles (14.12).
