GREENSBORO, N.C. – Junior Brycen Spratling qualified for the NCAA National Championship Meet in the 400 meter dash after posting a time of 46.51 and running the sixth fastest time of the day.

Spratling was 4th in his heat, and is one of the top 12 athletes from the East Region to advance to Eugene, Ore. for the NCAA Championship Meet which will be held from June 5-8. Spratling posted his fifth fastest time of the season and is now the second Pitt Panther to reach Eugene, along with Elizabeth Kline who will compete in the heptathlon.

In the prelims of the 200 meter dash, Carvin Nkanata shared the meet’s fastest time of the day with Isiah Young of Ole’ Miss as both athletes ran a time of 20.34. Nkanata will try to punch his ticket to Eugene tomorrow evening. 

Jonnique Lawrence finished 15th in the finals of the women’s 400 meter dash and was three places out of advancing to the NCAA Championship Meet. She ran a time of 53.18 which is the second fastest of her career, and she will have a chance to reach the championship meet tomorrow as she participates in the 4x100 meter relay with Ashley Woodford, Arielle Fonrose and Taranisha Taylor.



In the women’s 400 meter hurdles, freshman Evann Thompson ran a time of 59.16 and placed 16th overall. It was the second fastest time of her career and she was four spots shy of reaching the NCAA Championship Meet. In the men’s javelin, Brett Millar concluded his phenomenal season by placing 46th at the East Regionals. Millar won four meets this season.

The Panthers will try to send more athletes to Eugene tomorrow as both the men's and the women’s 4x100 and 4x400 meter relay teams are in action, along with Nkanata in the finals of the 200 meter dash, Taylor Slaney in the women’s javelin and Julia Koloski and Ashley Corum in the women’s triple jump.
