KENT, Ohio - The University of Pittsburgh men's and women's track and field teams will open up the 2012-13 campaign this weekend at the Golden Flash Gala hosted by Kent State University.
The meet will begin on Friday afternoon with most of the field events, followed by the 5K event that evening. Saturday features the majority of the track events.
The Panthers will bring 18 male student-athletes and 36 female student-athletes with them to the meet. Pitt competed last weekend at the 25th Annual Blue/Gold Intra Squad scrimmage, but this will be its first official meet of the season.
"We want to get as many Big East qualifying marks as possible this weekend," head coach Alonzo Webbsaid. "We want to get those marks knocked out of the way early, that way we can focus on continuing to train, and that allows us to do some things [in the future] we typically wouldn't have been able to do if we hadn't gotten those mark. I'm feeling good about that going into the meet."
After the Golden Flash Gala, Pitt is off until after the New Year when the Panthers resume action at the Penn State Relays on January 5th.
