Pittsburgh Indoor Track Teams Compete in Pentathlon at Golden Flash Gala

Junior Tamara McGill qualified for the Big East Championships in two events.

PITTSBURGH—The University of Pittsburgh indoor track and field teams competed in the pentathlon this past weekend at the Golden Flash Gala in Kent, Ohio.

            Placing first in the women’s pentathlon was junior Tamara McGill (Franklin Park, NJ/Franklin Township) with 3,656 points. She also qualified for the Big East Championships in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.52 and the high jump with a jump of 1.70 meters.  Both of these scores were also a personal record for McGill. 

            Also placing in the top five were sophomore Joelle Ambrose (Sarver, Pa./Freeport), placing third with 3,208 points, a personal record, and freshman Julianna Reed (Gibsonia, Pa./Hampton), who finished fourth with 3,055 points.

            For the men’s pentathlon, sophomore Mike Koping (Franklin Township, NJ/Franklin) placed fifth with 3,028 points.

            The Panthers are off until Jan. 10, when they compete at the Black Squirrel Classic held in Kent, Ohio.
