No. 18 Pitt Wrestling Improves To 11-1-1 With Win At Bloomsburg

PITTSBURGH - The 18th-ranked Pitt wrestling team improved to 11-1-1 on the year with a 23-12 win at Bloomsburg, also improving to 2-0 in Eastern Wrestling League action. Pitt’s first three wrestlers claimed victories including freshman Anthony Zanetta’s (Pittsburgh, Pa./Keystone Oaks) 12-6 decision over James Bak of Bloomsburg and senior Jimmy Conroy’s (South Plainfield, N.J./South Plainfield) 6-4 win over Jason Guffey. Sophomore Tyler Nauman (Middletown, Pa./Middletown) followed those two wins up by earning the first major decision of the day with an 8-0 win over Frank Hickman of Bloomsburg at 141. Pitt’s fell in the 149, 157 and 165 weight classes to ranked Bloomsburg wrestlers. Senior Dave Sullivan (Dingmans Ferry, Pa./East Stroudsburg) put the Panthers back on track at 174 with a 2-0 win over Nate Graham. The Panthers would not lose another match as Zac Thomusseit (St. Paris, Ohio/St. Paris Graham) defeated Derek Coffey, 7-1 at 184 and Matt Wilps (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley) claimed a 3-2 win over Brian Shaw at 197. Junior heavyweight Ryan Tomei (Irwin, Pa./Penn-Trafford) finished up the day with a 14-5 major decision over Zac Walsh with five takedowns and a near fall for the bonus-point win, giving Pitt the 23-12 victory. Pitt returns to action Thursday, Jan. 21 for a 7 p.m. EWL match at Cleveland State. The Panthers will return home Saturday, Jan. 23 against Penn at 2 p.m. at Fitzgerald Field House. #18 Pitt Panthers 23, Bloomsburg Huskies 12
